Today, Nunchuck Wallet releases support for the fully generalized use of MiniScript, giving some flexibility and control to users who have never seen before.
For those new to MiniScript, it is a policy language invented by core developers and former maintainer Pieter Wuille to make creating customized Bitcoin scripts easier and safer. MiniScript takes the most commonly used Bitcoin scripts, namely Signature Locks, Time Locks, Hash Locks, etc., and creates a “higher level” programming language for users to create custom scripts.
This high-level language is designed to be safe to analyze and configurable. This means that when users create customized scripts, they can make them work exactly how they expect them.
Nuchuck provides two basic templates that users can use, and you simply need to enter the keys you want to use in your wallet. One is a corrupt multi-sig. After the time lock expires, fewer keys need to be spent to ensure that Keyros does not lead to losing funds. The other is a multisig that expands. In this case, other keys can sign the transaction beyond the core key set. IE requires two-halfs in the beginning, but after a time lock, the third key can be signed instead.
In addition to these basic templates, more advanced users can import custom MiniScript templates they have created.
MiniScript templates can be applied to both native Segwit wallets and Taproot wallets.
Outside the gate, the following hardware wallets support native Segwit Miniscript for ColdCard, Tapsigner, Blockstream Jade and Ledger.
The following support Taproot Miniscript: ColdCard and Ledger.
For the time being, MISIG2 MiniScript will be limited to software-only keys.
Nunchuck’s end-to-end encrypted communications capabilities fully support MiniScript templates, allowing collaboration between users who build and use template-based wallets.
Additionally, Nunchuck has compiled 101 technical guides for users who want to use MiniScript in their wallets. For those who tend to jump into nuts and bolts, here is a website compiled by Peter Euille, who has the failure of the miniislick itself and some basic tools.
