Tonight, after an afternoon session with leaders in the Bitcoin and crypto industry, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) took part in an event sponsored by an intimate Bitcoin voter PAC in downtown Washington, D.C.
“We’re together,” Johnson told Bitcoin Magazine at the event.
“An extraordinary group gathered at Capitol Hill (today) is an extraordinary group, including the likes of Coinbase CEO Armstrong, Andreessen Horowitz GP Marc Placter Projecter Projects SVP and Brian Armstrong of Bitcoin Projects Placter Projects Brgens Projects, and Coinbase CEO, he added, and French Hill, chairman of the House Majority Whip Tom Emer and House Financial Services Committee, on the side of the Congress.
(The chair of the meeting Johnson mentioned was different from the meeting where Strategic Executive Director Michael Saylor attended Senators Cynthia Ramis and Nick Begich.)
Johnson also said Congress “relies on the insights and expertise” of industry members. “We can have policies that allow for further growth and progress in the industry.”
He emphasized that Republicans are “deeply committed” to helping them advance the industry in the coming years, and that today’s meeting is “very productive.”
Mike Senich, senior advisor to Bitcoin voter PAC, supported Johnson’s comments on how productive today’s meeting is.
“We had a great discussion about SBR (Strategic Bitcoin Reserve) and double taxation on Bitcoin Miners, which are taxed when Bitcoin is mined and sold,” Senich told Bitcoin Magazine.
Senic added that US Treasury members were also present for these discussions, including executive director of the Domestic Treasury Secretary Luke Petty, counselor Tyler Williams, secretary of digital assets, and White House executive director of presidential advisor to Patrick Wittt, as well as members of the White House for those discussions.
“(We) talked about how the industry can carry hands with our teams with gloves,” Senic said.
Senic also said that people at today’s meetings now “understand the priorities of market structure.”
When asked whether these priorities include maintaining language from the Blockchain Regulations Certification Act (BRCA), which protects developers and providers of non-controlling technologies, he said he could not comment on the details of what was currently discussed.
However, he said that the era is the essence of the essence of obtaining a law like the one passed by the Clarity Act (the Crypto Market Structure Bill).
“I believe the future of this industry is based on a majority of Republicans in Congress to accomplish everything we need to do,” Senich said.
“So, we don’t know where the House majority is in a year, so we have to start working together on that timeline to achieve these,” he added.
“And as an additional point with Johnson’s speakers, we’ll do everything we can to protect the majority of his home by selecting Bitcoin and Crypto Champions (comes mid-term).”
